Race for '08

While driving to the post office this evening to return some Netflix movies, I realized I was noticing an interesting "trend." The Presidential election is about a little over 3 months from now and Clinton, Kucinich and Romney are all way out. The two runners are John McCain and Barack Obama. I still think Obama is an idiot for not choosing Clinton as a running mate and I'm convinced that even though she wanted to be President, she would have accepted to be his mate. That would have been huge! So we are stuck with bad and worse (in my humble opinion; I honestly don't know who I will vote for but I WILL vote).

Anyway, what I noticed is that I have yet to see a "vote for McCain" sticker, yard sign, bumper sticker, flyer or button. I've seen plenty of "Obama for President" signs and I find that really interesting. Interesting in more ways than one, not the least of which is that Obama is African-American and part of me is convinced the country is not ready for an African-American President. Or maybe that's just me being stuck in the 18th century.

Obama is a powerful speaker and charming but can he lead a country? Only time will tell and we will soon enough know if that question is even moot or not.

Talk to you soon.

peace,

paul

Cover your ears, children

Here's a scary story out of Russia. Thirty bears that are reacting to a fish shortage are holding Russian geologists hostage at their remote camp. Due to the inclement weather, no helicopters can land and the bears are circling the camp threatening to devour the geologists. Can't they just drop fish from the helicopter?

The bears are 10-feet tall and one of them killed two scientists last week; the official start of the "situation."

The men are currently staying put with their weapons by their side.

Oh, who says there's nothing good on the radio. Some songs I'm currently enjoying (before they are played to death and I can't stand to hear them one more time)...

There's a female Christian pop singer named Plumb that I really like and her newest song, In My Arms, is a song that could have been schmaltzy but it's got just enough of a beat and a beautiful, sweeping sound to make it stand out. I wouldn't mind singing it, in fact.

Another song I like is the song by 3 Doors Down, the Mississippi group, called It's Not My Time. It's a moving, almost anthemic song with an uplifiting message.

Another song I'm enjoying is kind of a rap/R&B song called Dangerous by Kardinal Offishall. His real name is Jason Harrow and he's Canadian (eh?). He does the song with rapper Akon (whose real name is Aliuane Thiam) and it's one of those make-you-get-up-and-shake-your-booty songs.

So, next time you think there's nothing worth listening to on the radio, listen again.

peace,

paul
