Best Supporting Actress

The next award in the race for the gold; this is arguably the most difficult category to predict. Most actresses that have won this award have never been nominated again. Some past winners: Claire Trevor, Vanessa Redgrave, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jennifer Connelly.

Cate Blanchett: Playing the great Kate in The Aviator, which I've heard she nailed, she has been nominated once before (hard to believe, in my opinion, it's only been one other time). Should Win

Laura Linney: Kinsey's faithful and enduring wife, Linney too, has been nominated once before.

Virginia Madsen: The effervescent and understated as Maya, in the film Sideways, Madsen scores her first nomination and a major boost (maybe) to her career. Will Win

Sophie Okonedo: Probably the least likely to win out of all the other noms, Okonedo played the wife of Paul Rusasabagina with empathy and a toughness not usually seen in films dealing with true life horrors.

Natalie Portman: Playing the young and sometimes naive Alice, Portman (yes, Miss Queen Amidala herself) scores her first nom with a very adult role. Despite my above picks, Portman is the one to watch. She could conceivably win.

That's all for now. Enjoy your Tuesday evening and stay warm.

love,
