Oh Oscar

The continuing saga of the chase for the little gold man......

Best Actor. Former winners in this category include Paul Muni, Rex Harrison, Robert DeNiro, and Paul Newman. And PRAISE!!!!! that Jack Nicholson has not been nominated this year. And now a rundown of this year's nominees....

Don Cheadle: For his brave turn as Paul Rusasabagina, the hotelier who gave shelter to the Tsutsis during the genocide in Rwanda in the early 90's. This film proved that Cheadle (a wonderful actor) can carry a movie. Alas, he won't carry the statue on Oscar night.

Johnny Depp: Another nod for Depp who proved a long time ago he could carry a film and that he was extremely versatile. Playing J.M. Barrie, Depp portrays a man who is deeply connected with his inner child. Down, Depp, down, this still isn't your year. Should Win

Leonardo DiCaprio: As Howard Hughes in The Aviator, DiCaprio is being hailed as giving his best performance. Hopefully, I'll be able to judge that tomorrow. I'm convinced, however, that I'll walk away thinking the best thing I ever saw him in was What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Leo's losing this year.

Clint Eastwood: As Frankie Dunn, the trainer who agrees to train a girl, Eastwood does NOT give his best performance ever. He is moving and of course he is stoic but this just isn't the role that's gonna win him the Oscar. Of course this race would be wide open if it wasn't for....

Jamie Foxx: He truly embodied Ray Charles in the film Ray. He was a knockout. The movie, ehhh, wasn't great, but Foxx's performance somehow transcended the film itself. First time nom for Foxx, first time win. Will Win

More later......
