day of rest

Well here it is Sunday and another week is before us. I must be going through something internally. I haven't felt right for a few days now. I'm not sure if it's depression or what but I just feel off. Hopefully, whatever it is will pass soon.

Here's an item that made me feel better....The setting: A Manhattan diner. The night: A cold one in February (and believe me we've had some doozies this month and last). The people: All hungry and.......naked!!!! We've all heard of nudists colonies (maybe some of us have even been to one but what about a nudist outing to a restaurant? Around 30 people had dinner at the "Clothing Optional Dinner." Yes, it is a monthly outing and despite the fact people were "au naturel" many people didn't focus on "looking around." The age range was 30's and up and there were singles and marrieds. Many people were adorned with necklaces, earrings and one man even had a black leather genital bracelet, with red studs no less. He is also a member of MAN. That's the gay nudist group, Males Au Naturel (how appropriate is that acronym????). Word has it there was no hot soup on the menu that night (whew!)

Oscar race: Best Original Screenplay. There are some original ideas in Hollywood, believe it or not. Some of the past winners have been: Father Goose, Hannah And Her Sisters, Ghost, and Fargo, just to name a few. And now for this year's race.

The Aviator: I still haven't seen this film but from what I've heard, it's done well and the flight scenes are cool. And it's Martin Scorsese so it must be good, right? Won't win.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: A weird, trippy ride through two people lives as they experience love and then attempt to erase any memory of that love. Must be real a real psychedelic experience if one sees it while they are high. Will win.

Hotel Rwanda: A disturbing, horror-filled and moving story about the genocide that took place 11 years ago in the Rwanda region. Believe it or not quite a timely pic. Should win.

The Incredibles: Haven't had a chance to see this but I've read it's a great mixture of humor for grown-ups and kids. The writing has been praise as has the animation and the success of making everyday people true heroes.

Vera Drake: Another one I've missed. I've seen Mike Leigh's other films, however, and his "non-script" approach seems to work fabulously in eliciting moving and strong performances from his actors. He's known to have a very thin script and shoot most of his movies using improv.

That's it for now. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. I'm going outside for a walk in the sun.

love,

p
